2009-10 Department Workplan

The Digital Learning Department will complete the following major tasks:

  • Set up new Digital Learning Department website for access to information, courses for students, resources, training and support.
  • Recruit membership and hold meetings for the Online Learning Advisory Committee.
  • Develop and conduct data gathering on online programs/courses that operated in the state during 2008-09 and prepare a report for the legislature by Dec. 1, 2009.
  • Develop multidistrict online provider quality approval criteria and processes and conduct rules process/hearings for final approvals by December 5, 2009.
  • Conduct first round of multidistrict online provider approvals for decisions to be announced April 1, 2010.
  • Develop model online learning policy and procedures with WSSDA and release to districts by February 1, 2010; receive districts' policies by Sept. 15, 2010 and prepare report for legislature summarizing these by December 1, 2010.
  • Modify standards for school districts to report online courses under RCW 28A.300.500 by December 1, 2009. The reporting standards will be required beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
  • Revise the definition of a full-time equivalent student to include students who receive instruction through alternative learning experience online programs.
  • Develop model agreements for districts to use with approved multidistrict online providers.
  • Work with ESDs for:
    • Technical assistance and support to districts regarding development and implementation of their online learning programs.
    • Providing online learning tools for students, teachers, administrators, and other educators.
  • Beginning January 15, 2011, and annually after that, submit online learning reports to legislature.
