Section 3(j) was originally listed as "In-person instructional contact," which can now be found in section 3(e).

Rule Text

(j) “School-based support staff” means an employee of a school district, or of a school district contractor pursuant to WAC 392-121-188, who is supporting a student in an online course. The school-based support staff may or may not hold a teaching certificate.

The addition of the role of school-based support staff for online courses in the 2013 rule change is not an indication that the role of the certificated teacher is diminished in any way. It recognizes the role the school-based support staff play in facilitating communication between an online teacher and student as well as completing administrative tasks.
