The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District believes it is in the best interest of students to offer a flexible educational model whereby students can earn credits and participate in increased learning opportunities through a variety of approaches.
The Naselle Virtual Academy is an online, web-based program allowing students to participate in courses for part or all of their school day. This program will provide opportunities for students to access curriculum and specialized courses in a flexible learning environment that might not be otherwise available in a traditional school model.
Students may participate in courses offered through the Digital Learning Directory at OSPI. Students may take courses during their traditional school day, from a remote location, or participate in a hybrid model with a certified, highly-qualified teacher assigned by the course provider.
Being an online student is not for everyone. It is necessary for participants to be highly committed, sit in front of a computer for many hours a day, exhibit a strong sense of self-discipline, and commitment to daily learning.
- Language Arts
- Social Studies
- World Languages
- Advanced Placement
- Credit Recovery
Students who are credit deficient, desiring advanced opportunities, or are looking for different and/or additional course offerings are eligible to participate. It is expected that students will be self-motivated, able to work independently, have strong parental support and have access to a computer.
Student-Teacher Contact Requirements
Depending on the particular needs of the student, some courses may require simultaneous face to face contact either electronically or in person; check-ins with the teacher on a weekly basis will be required. For day-to-day courses in the traditional brick and mortar system, the students will work with the teacher daily.
The majority of available courses will be provided by APEX and Fuel Foundation (formerly Aventa), but additional learning platforms may be allowed on a case by case basis.
