OSPI Approval

Approved as a Single District Online School Program from the 2014-15 through the 2017-18 school year.

Student Enrollment Instructions:

The enrollment process for students begins with a referral to the online program by their home school counselor. The referral is then picked up by the online counselor with students and their parents meeting to schedule their online coursework and to map out their plans/requirements for graduation.
A program orientation and course enrollment is scheduled with their online teacher and access is provided so that the student may begin their courses. This is where the coursework timeline/calendar is established as well as the schedule for the required weekly face to face meet-ups of 60 minutes.

The Moses Lake School District’s mission statement is: “A caring community dedicated to the success and well-being of all.” This directly relates to our on-line learning environment as we provide the student with a safe virtual learning environment supported by the weekly adult connection that the students still need as they move forward with their academic progress towards earning a diploma.
The MLSD Digital program is a fully comprehensive program that supports students in general education classes, students with IEP’s and student seeking the rigor of AP courses. Additionally we have added a contract with Middleburry college for our World Language offering which means that all our courses are taught by highly qualified teachers.
Beginning with the second term of 2015-16, MLSD Digital will purchase licenses from Rosetta Stone for our World Language offering.

The online program is inclusive in that it provides a supported learning environment for students with a wide range of academic abilities—whether that includes an IEP or 504 plan or includes those students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses at the high school or Running Start at our local community college.
We believe that our two platforms: APEX and OdysseyWare allow us to meet our students where they are academically and to move them forward.
Specifically for grades 9-12 the APEX platform is used, while at the middle school levels of grade 6-8 Odyssey Ware platform is used.

Student-Teacher Contact Requirements

Our online program includes a student-teacher contact requirement. Our requirement is a minimum of 60 minutes per week, face to face. We do not provide for emails, texts or phone calls and believe strongly in maintaining this adult connection through our online program.
In some cases, the student and teacher may mutually agree to meet more than one time in a given week if the student or teacher need the additional time together.
