Washington Virtual Academy and K12’s Mission: Each Child’s Potential

We strive to develop each child’s full potential with engaging, individualized learning. K¹²’s curriculum and learning management system is available through Washington Virtual Academy (WAVA) as a full and part-time public school virtual program through Monroe Public Schools. WAVA uses the K12, Inc. curriculum and learning management systems for grades 9-12

Course Offerings

Washington Virtual Academy offers grades 9-12, Math, Science, English, History, Art, Physical Education, Foreign Language, CTE courses, Advanced Placement courses and numerous electives.

Students

Washington Virtual Academy serves students statewide. We serve students who are advanced and enrichable learners, students who have struggled academically, special needs and homebound students, students who are seeking an alternative to the traditional brick and mortar academic setting, students with discipline and behavioral challenges, military students and students who are homeschooled. Our students are geographically located throughout the state in rural, urban and suburban settings.

Instructional Model

WAVA’s instructinal model is aligned with the K12 HS structure described on the K12 website at http://www.k12.com/schools-programs/high-school-program.

Curriculum Alignments

K12, Inc.‘s curriculum alignments were conducted by K12’s Product and Support team in conjunction with Washington State K12 and Washington Virtual Academy administrators and teachers. Alignments are completed as needed and are an ongoing process as curriculum is developed and Washington State standards are changed

Accreditation

Washington Virtual Academy is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission, formerly the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS).

Instructor Certification

Yes, all Washington Virtual Academy teachers are Washington State certificated and are highly qualified.

Courseware Platform

WAVA uses a proprietary on-line learning system developed by K-12 to organize and run the WAVA program. This OLS includes K-mail, a secure e-mail tool available to all students, parents and WAVA staff. Primary platform tools include Blackboard Connect which provides students and teachers a real-time web-based classroom interaction space and E-college, the platform in which our HS content and curriculum is delivered. Additional on-line tools include Scantron Assessments, Drop-box and Study Island.

It's nice because it allows for me to be a bit more flexible with my time.

I have been at WAVA for my junior and senior year now , and i would say that my experience would be very similar to a ""regular"" high school. Really the only main thing that i was dissapointed in was the course selection! There needs to be way more course offerings!!! And i have found that the courses that they enroll you in are actually kind of pointless. There was one i was in where i learned absolutely nothing!! This is something that you must work on in the future!

we think this is a great program. we also think that there should be a vew more options for electives home ect maybe, or more art classes that work with clay or paintings
