Overview

DigiPen Institute of Technology was established in 1988 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada as a computer simulation and animation school. In 1996, DigiPen moved to Redmond, Washington where it has been a leading educational institution offering various Bachelor’s of Science, Bachelor’s of Arts and a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree. Aside from these undergraduate degrees, DigiPen also offers a Master’s degree in Computer Science. DigiPen opened a new campus in Singapore in 2008 at the invitation of the Singaporean government, and recently opened a campus in Bilbao, Spain in Fall 2011. Because of their commitment to providing an exemplary educating and furthering the study and research in science, technology, engineering and math, DigiPen offers numerous K-12 educational programs throughout the United States and abroad.

Students in the DigiPen Online Technology Academies learn serious skills while working on engaging projects. While making as series of engaging games, students will learn basic programming, applications for mathematics, art design, and communication skills. Future courses will continue to teach serious material through engaging, hands-on learning.

Students

The DigiPen Online Technology Academies are designed for students with a passion for video games that are also willing to work hard. The content is demanding and rewarding at the same time. It will take intentional study and effort to succeed in these courses.

Instructional Model

DigiPen’s Online Academies are a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning.

Curriculum Alignments

DigiPen Online Technology Academy courses are aligned to Washington State CTE frameworks for the appropriate content area. Where appropriate, parallel alignments with core curriculum GLEs and EALRs are noted.

Accreditation

DigiPen Online Technology Academy courses have received full accreditation from the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools in December of 2009.

Instructor Certification

All DigiPen’s online instructors are CTE certified in the state of Washington. All instructors hold degrees, experience and advanced training in the content to be presented as well as training in effective online education.

AP Audit

The DigiPen curriculum was AP approved in a local classroom in 2008.

Courseware Platform

DigiPen Online Technology Academies use three different methods to help students learn. All students receive a copy of the book needed for the class they are enrolled in. This is their primary resource for the course. Daily assignments, communications, hand outs and assignment submittals are handled through the DigiPen Moodle site. In addition, students are provided access to the DigiPen forums and websites where additional materials and community support can be found. Teachers can be accessed by email and by phone during their established office hours.
