Student Enrollment Instructions:
During open enrollment, students choose the top six electives they are interested in taking. The counselor then places them in classes based on what classes they need to be on track to graduate. In the case of middle school, the academic adviser places students in electives based on their choices and the availability of seats in the course.
Believing that all students deserve access to an education which prepares them for a successful future, iQ Academy Washington opened its doors in September 2008 as an Evergreen District public school. iQ Washington provides high-quality, technology-enabled learning programs and innovative teaching methods to Washington state students in grades 6-12 who are looking for a rigorous, highly enriching online choice in education. Our goal is to help create self-motivated, competent, globally connected, life-long learners who participate effectively in society. Students will achieve their individual potential through innovative, socially connected, and student-focused education. Our program is designed for students desiring a world-class education that leads to graduation and success beyond high school.
The web-based K12 curriculum is aligned to the Washington or National standards for learning and is taught by Washington State Highly Qualified Certificated teachers from the Evergreen Public School District. Our teachers utilize the Online Learning Management System, Blackboard Collaborate online classrooms, and discussion boards to provide instruction to their students. Teacher direct instruction, group work and course schedules are established for each course so students have a step by step pathway and the related supports necessary to successfully master the coursework.

Student-Teacher Contact Requirements
It is our hope that everyone at iQ Academy is successful. In order to clarify our school’s expectations and to ensure success for all students, we have compiled the following strategies for success that will serve as the foundation for our Compliance Policy.
Three essential steps to success at iQ Academy Washington:
- Call, Kmail, IM, or Skype your teachers regularly (weekly).
- Reading and RESPONDING to Kmails are iQ requirements.
- LMS login time and assignment completion indicate attendance.
- Students should expect to devote an average of 60 minutes per day for each class through the online system and offline work to complete assignments.
- Attend live, sychronous class connect sessions (as many as possible) each week. Full time students are required to attend at least 1 hour a week.
- Ask questions, offer comments, participate in discussions.
Everyone at iQ is committed to encouraging the academic growth of all of our students by helping them to incorporate these three steps to success into their daily routines. You can look forward to regular kmail prompts, encouraging communication, monthly progress reports to keep families informed of their student’s scholastic achievement, and even phone calls to help support students in meeting all of their goals. You will form strong relationships with teachers and advisors at iQ Academy. Additionally, please note that a student’s consistent struggle to commit to these steps to success could indicate that our online school may not be the best learning environment for that student, and his or her enrollment at iQ Academy Washington may be jeopardized.
iQ Academy uses a proprietary on-line learning system developed by K-12 to organize and run the iQ program. This OLS includes K-mail, a secure e-mail tool available to all students, parents and iQ staff. Primary platform tools include Blackboard Connect which provides students and teachers a real-time web-based classroom interaction space and E-college, the platform in which our MS and HS content and curriculum is delivered. Additional on-line tools include Scantron Assessments, Drop-box and Study Island.
