We require each instructor have at least weekly contact with their students. Instructors notify the students of the requirement at the beginning of the course via the communication area in our student information system (SIS, found at www.edgenuity.com/SIS-Login). Students are given login information to the SIS in a welcome email sent from our Customer Relations team prior to their course start date. If needed, teachers will remind the students of this requirement throughout the course of the term.

Students are offered the opportunity to meet with their instructors for synchronous contact during predetermined times online. Instructors send information on available meeting times to students via the communication area of the SIS and at times in welcome emails. The information is saved in the communication log so the student can reference it, and some teachers have their own websites that students can also reference. Many of the synchronous sessions are recorded electronically and saved for future reference.

Direct personal communication between teachers and students is recorded within the SIS and is available for students, teachers, and mentors to access during the course. Each mentor is assigned an account in the SIS and can view the communication between teacher and student both during the course and after.

Written Student Learning Plans

Full Support

A certificated teacher develops components of a student’s written student learning plan to include the eight required elements. WSLP’s are emailed directly to the student, and that information also appears in the communication area of the SIS. Giant Campus teachers follow up with students who do not respond to the email of the WSLP to make sure they have received it and understand the expectations.

At this time the mentor is not expected to be a part of creating the learning plan but is provided a copy for local school records.

Monthly Evaluations and Intervention Plans

All students receive progress evaluations at least once per month. Progress is communicated to the student directly in the SIS communication area, and mentors are sent progress reports directly via email by our Customer Relations team. Teachers are required to communicate with students on a weekly basis with students that are making satisfactory or unsatisfactory progress, which includes reviewing evaluations.

Teachers make intervention accommodations for students that are failing to stay on pace or are performing poorly. This can come in the form of an amended WSLP or agreed upon intervention strategies between the teacher, student, and mentor. Mentors are encouraged by our Customer Relations team and teachers to access the SIS on a regular basis to monitor their student’s progress, and be in contact with our Customer Relations team re: the progress of the student. Some mentors request that detailed progress reports be sent to them weekly, and we accommodate those requests.
