Students

VHS offers courses for students at all levels. We offer standard, honors and Advanced Placement courses as well as courses appropriate for gifted and talented middle schools students and select credit recovery courses. Our primary focus areas include AP courses and unique elective courses.

Student-Teacher Contact Requirements

VHS offers cohort-based, scheduled, asynchronous courses where students work on a weekly schedule, but have complete flexibility as to when they attend class and complete their assignments. Students interact with each other in required class discussions, collaborative activities, and structured group work. Each student has a private discussion area where they can communicate with their teacher.

Courses use a variety of tools to facilitate student-teacher and student-student interactions within the online classroom, including discussion boards, wikis, blogs, and instructor office hours. Emphasis is placed on authentic assignments and depth of learning. Any synchronous meetings or lessons are archived within the course so that students who are not able to attend are able to reference the material.

All students taking VHS courses are assigned a site coordinator who monitors student progress and can intervene as needed on behalf of a student who may have special circumstances. VHS works with both instructors and site coordinators to ensure students have a quality educational experiences.
