Course Providers
Student Access
Each student enrolled in an online course must have access to an available computer for a period of time during the school day in order to complete coursework.
Browsers
All browsers should be set up to:
- Run JavaScript
- Accept Cookies (IE/Windows should have the Privacy Setting at Medium)
Please note that specific requirements may vary depending on the course, resource, or tool being accessed. Some courses may have requirements above and beyond what is listed here, including the installation of course-specific software.
Hardware
The DLD recommends using computers that will be able to run the most recent versions of the software packages listed on in this handout. Computers purchased within the past three to four years should be able to run all of the necessary software.
Screen resolution should be set to at least 800 x 600 (or higher, if possible). Computers should have speakers or headphones for best use with the multimedia portions of some courses.
Bandwidth
Most DLD courses, resources, and tools are largely text-based, meaning that the bandwidth impact will likely be fairly minimal. Some content providers make use of video and audio. These resources have the potential to increase bandwidth usage in your school or home. The exact impact of DLD participation will depend on the specific usage of DLD resources.

Red Comet
Technology Requirements
Virtually all PCs with high-speed internet access will run Red Comet courses. Please note that Red Comet recommends the latest version of Mozilla Firefox Internet Browser. Mozilla Firefox is free software that can be downloaded and installed on your computer. Using other browsers such as Internet Explorer, Safari, Google Chrome, Netscape, or Opera, may create situations where the student may possibly lose work. For these other browsers, we do not guarantee a reliable and stable system.
The following is a list of minimum system requirements to access Red Comet courses:
Browser:
Preferably Firefox 3 or higher
Acceptable IE 7 or higher
Browser Configuration:
Pop-Up Blocking disabled
JavaScript Enabled
AJAX Enabled
Operating System:
Windows XP/Vista
Macintosh OS/X

Access to Red Comet courses and other content is available using most versions of Unix, but support for Unix is not available through Red Comet.
Dialup Internet Connections – (not recommended)
Students and parents can successfully access Red Comet courses and other content over a dialup Internet connection, but the experience will be sub-optimal. Red Comet does not support dialup connections and strongly recommends DSL or cable Internet connections.
Headsets – (highly recommended)
To provide the best online learning experience for the student, it is recommended that noise-cancelling headsets be used. Red Comet recommends the LogicTech ClearChat Comfort USB headset. These headsets can be found at various stores or Online for under $30.
Network Requirements
Red Comet uses Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) for its course delivery and communication. Our Moodle platform is hosted on Amazon Cloud, and can be accessed at the following link:
