About DLD Online Courses

The DLD offers online courses as an option to help schools meet students' individual needs, expand learning opportunities, and diversify their curricula. Read on for more details.

  • 600+ online courses for grades 6–12 are offered through approved multidistrict online course providers in the following categories:
    • Core subjects
    • Credit recovery
    • Electives
    • Advanced placement (AP)
    • Foreign languages
    • Technical and vocational skills
    • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • All instruction delivered via Digital Learning Department online courses is assured by the provider to be delivered by Washington state certificated teachers who are assigned to instruct courses in a manner which meets the "Highly Qualified" definition under the No Child Left Behind Act and in a manner which meets the requirements set forth in WAC 181-82.
  • Credits for online courses are granted through the student's school.
  • Schools determine which courses are available to their students and which students are eligible to take online courses.
  • Student success in online courses is supported by a school-based Teacher/Mentor and Registrar.
  • Courses are tuition-based, so there is no exchange of student FTE.
  • The DLD invoices the school with once per term, so there's only one invoice to manage, regardless of how many providers are used.
