What's Next? Checklist

After students register for courses:

  1. Give students login information for their DLD email accounts (hosted by www.gaggle.net). Email accounts will be accessible within 24 hours of registration.* Students should check their email accounts on their course start date for a "welcome" email and other important information. The DLD email accounts expire annually.**
  2. Let students know who their Teacher/Mentor will be. And inform students about how and when to access their online courses during the school day.
  3. Any textbooks or materials ordered for courses in the registration process will be sent to the attention of the Teacher/Mentors. Students should keep in touch with their Teacher/Mentors during the first few days of the course to make sure they receive everything they need.
  4. Some course providers require students to complete an orientation before starting the course; others have orientation information available. The DLD highly recommends that students take the time to orient themselves to their courses as soon as possible so that nothing important is missed.
  5. Once your student has been enrolled in the online course, the Teacher/Mentor will also start to receive communications from the online course provider. The various communications expected from each provider are outlined here.
  6. Contact the DLD as soon as possible if either student or Teacher/Mentor communications have not been received by the student's start date.

* VHS does not send registration confirmations and login information to the students. This information can be located by DLD Registrars within the DLD registration system in the registration roster under "Existing Registrations." Registrars should email VHS login and start date information to students' DLD email accounts upon registration.

** DLD Gaggle.net email accounts are assigned to students upon registering for DLD online courses. All accounts will expire annually at the end of each school year (on June 30th) unless the student is already registered for an upcoming semester course (ie, summer or fall or spring of the next school year) or is still active in an existing course registration. Students whose accounts have been expired will be given new accounts and passwords upon registering for a new course. All DLD Gaggle.net email users will receive three reminders of the account expiration so they may update email information for any online resources they registered for – aside from any DLD online courses – using their Gaggle.net DLD email account, such as DLD’s online tutors, online SAT preparation, or career information sites.

While students are waiting for their courses to start, have them take a tour of the Start-Up Demo Accounts. They'll get practice accessing online courses. And you know what they say: Practice makes perfect!
